Georgian President Calls for Summit of South Caucasus, Baltic States

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has proposed to hold a summit of South Caucasus and Baltic states in Tbilisi.
“We hope we will be able to use a format involving Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, and the three Baltic states - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia”, he told a news conference held jointly with his Latvian counterpart Vaira Vike-Freiberga in the Georgian capital on Wednesday.

“Such a summit would promote rapprochement of these formerly Soviet Union republics in a new European format and the process of integration of South Caucasus states with Europe. Such contacts are important in terms of strengthening democracy in the region and peaceful resolution of conflicts,” Saakashvili said.
