Kazakhstan has no Russia accession plans
Kazakhstan does not foster any plans of uniting with or accession to Russia, Kazakhstani foreign affairs minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev has said today. He noted that Russia's top political figures were referring to Kazakhstan as the closest political ally, which testifies to mutual confidence and friendly relations between the two countries. Kazakhstan is poised to enhance strategic cooperation with Russia, but this does not imply any accession prospects.
As reported earlier, official spokesman for the Russian foreign ministry Mikhail Kamynin said that the issue of a union state of Russia and Kazakhstan had never been and was not being discussed. This is how the two officials commented on information circulated by a number of mass media on the possible alliance of the two countries.
