On 29 July, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas took part in the European Union’s General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting in Geneva. During the meeting EU Ministers stated that countries of the World Trade Organization (WTO) failed to reach a compromise on the liberalisation of trade in agriculture and industrial goods.

Meeting of WTO Trade Ministers that was held from 21 through 29 July in Geneva ended unsuccessfully, as WTO members did not manage to agree on the parameters for the obligations of WTO countries in the area of trade in agriculture and industrial goods.

EU General Affairs and External Relations Council thanked EU Commissioners Peter Mandelson and Mariann Fischer Boel for their efforts to reach an agreement.
