Detroit impacts Mexico's economy

600,000 Mexicans work in the auto and auto parts industries, and U.S. automakers run around a dozen plants like this GM factory in the town of Silao.

Compounding the fears: Silao's plant turns out big gas-guzzlers which are unpopular at a time of high gas prices and the green movement.

This plant cut a fifth of its staff and stopped producing the Suburban SUV.
