EU Opens Anti-fraud Office in Poland

The European Union will open a European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) in Poland next month to work in collaboration with Polish customs inspectors, a Polish customs spokeswoman said Thursday. "Four European experts will arrive in Warsaw in the beginning of January. Under an agreement signed Wednesday they will receive all the information of the customs police and other Polish law enforcement bodies," Malgorzata Skocinska told AFP. The Polish bureau of OLAF, the first in a country seeking entry to the European Union, will primarily monitor the use of EU assistance funds. OLAF inspectors will also work with their Polish customs colleagues to monitor transport of goods. One of the organization's main tasks is to root out fraud in EU subsidy programs.
