A recent report from Intelligence examines Internet usage in the Nordic region, in terms of online population, frequency of use, and ecommerce. Overall, 1.6 million consumers in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark have made an online purchase. Sweden topped the list. There are currently 3.6 million people online in Sweden, 3.1 million of whom use the Internet at least once a month, while 950,000, 26.5% have made an online purchase. As is generally the case, online experience determines who is shopping online. The study found that 76% of Swedish online shoppers have been online since 1997, with 56% of those online since 1998 or later never having shopped over the Net. In comparison, 1.6 million people have Internet access in Norway, 1.4 million of whom go online at least once a month. 250,000 have made an online purchase. Intelligence estimates that 1.6 million consumers have Net access in Finland, with 1.1 million accessing the Net at least once a month, while 200,000 have purchased online. In Denmark, 1.7 million people are estimated to have Internet access, 1.5 million of whom have Net access, while 250,000 have made an online purchase. The study found that the mean purchase is over USD120, typically computer or travel related products.
