Poland: GDP to grow 2.1%

Although economic recovery is underway, the finance ministry’s projections for GDP growth of 2.3% in the first quarter are overoptimistic, said Janusz Witkowski, deputy president of the Central Statistical Office (GUS). GUS predicted an estimated 2.1% GDP growth in the first quarter of the year compared with 2.8% in the same period in 2002. Good industrial production dynamics are stimulating the country’s growth, while the construction industry and trade have yet to show signs of recovery.
