"Opt-out" system

Australian regulator the ACCC approved a code of practice for marketers selling via the telephone and the Internet. It will provide for an independent dispute resolution process and an "opt-out" system where consumers can direct they receive no further offers from companies. Refunds will also be given to customers whose goods are not delivered within the time specified in a contract. The Australian Consumers Association said it would have liked to have seen an opt-in rule for e-commerce and e-mail marketing as a step towards reducing spam.
