mBank continues to hold the lead in Internet banking

The number of accounts handled by Internet-based banks in Poland has exceeded one million, with BRE Bank's retail subsidiary, mBank controlling a major share of the market. By the end of April, the market leader serviced over 730,000 accounts of zł.2.66 billion in total value. Its nearest competitor, Inteligo, has almost 320,000 accounts with assets of zł.829 million. Market analysts however emphasize that the difference in value of the two banks increases every month, despite earlier speculation that Inteligo, strengthened by the largest domestic retailer PKO BP, would become a serious rival. Although Inteligo services ten times as many accounts as the next in line Volkswagen Bank Direct, the difference in the value of funds held in the banks is only zł.200 million. It seems like Inteligo will have to concentrate on defending its second place, rather than hoping to become the market leader.
