The Plant's Closure
EU to Give 100 Million Euros to Close Armenian Nuclear Plant The European Union is ready to finance the closure of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. Minister of Trade and Economic Development Karien Chshmaritian reported the news at a press conference while commenting about the results of the Armenia-EU conference held in Brussels on June 4. He stated that a concrete date for the plant's closure has not been set, because Armenia is not in the financial position to finance the closure. According to Karien Chshmaritian, the EU confirmed its intent to allocate 100 million euros for the closure of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, and the organization of alternative energy sources. Last year, the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant was transferred to the Russian joint-stock company EEC Russia for asset management.
