U.S. may invest big in Ukraine

The United States may invest massively in Ukraine if its new government achieves economic stability, Interfax-Ukraine news agency said Wednesday. U.S. Ambassador to Kiev John Herbst told Ukrainian lawmakers that if the new Ukrainian government of President-elect Viktor Yushchenko succeeded in restoring stability, it could expect an influx of new U.S. investments, the news agency said. During a TV linkup between members of the Supreme Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, and members of the United States Congress, Herbst expressed confidence that there would be a regular flow of capital from the West if the new government could restore order. Herbst said he expected to see a fundamental improvement in bilateral relations following Yushchenko's victory in the rerun of the second round of the Ukrainian presidential election.
