Joint production of buses
KamAZ (Russia) and Volvo (Sweden) are conducting negotiations on assembling Volvo_s city buses at the KamAZ plant in Naberezhniye Chelny, Tatarstan. First deputy prime minister of Tatarstan Ravil Muratov said that the companies have already decided that the busses will be assembled using KamAZ chassis. The price of a bus will not be higher than $55,000. According to Mr. Muratov, the deal has been delayed because KamAZ asked too much ($29,000) for its chassis. Mr. Muratov believes that this price is unrealistic, and that the Russian auto giant will have to lower its price. He said that the project is mutually interesting to both sides, because the Russian market has a high demand for busses of that quality and price. In the future KamAZ and Volvo may start joint production of trucks.
